I’m Yichao.

My research focuses on systems and computer architecture for LLMs and other GenAI workloads, as well as high-performance data processing.

I’m a Computer Science Ph.D. student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, advised by Prof. Nishil Talati . I also hold a B.S.E. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

My work has appeared at systems and computer architecture venues including ASPLOS, ISCA, HPCA, MICRO, VLDB, and HPDC.

About me

At UIUC, I work on systems and computer architecture for LLMs and other GenAI workloads.

My previous research focused on GPU-accelerated systems for large-scale data analytics and hardware–software co-design.

I began my Ph.D. at the University of Michigan and transferred to UIUC with my advisor, Prof. Nishil Talati , in 2025. I also earned my M.S.E. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Michigan.
